Medford Square Florist, formerly D’Errico McGlynn Flowers, located in Medford Square, is a family owned and operated full service flower shop. Our shop has provided service to Medford and its surrounding communities since 1955. At Medford Square Florist we take pride in having strong relationships with all those with whom we do business, from our customers to our wholesalers. All arrangements are custom designed, based on the customer’s desires, seasonal availability of the flowers and what compliments the occasion. We strive for friendly, personal service and take care with all customer requests. As Medford’s oldest flower shop we stand for the same goals set forth by the previous generations of floral designers and strive to continually satisfy and impress our customers.

After returning from World War II, former Medford Mayor Jack McGlynn, went to work for his uncle in Somerville at McGlynn the Florist. He opened his own shop in West Medford Square in the late 1940’s and later moved to the shops current location in Medford Square. In 1959 Jack McGlynn was elected to the Massachusetts House of Representatives, while also serving on the Medford city council, now too busy to also run the flower shop he decided to sell the shop to his friend Phil D’Errico. At this time two of the area’s most prominent florist’s names were joined and still hold a prominent place in the Medford community, on the sign of our shop in Medford Square.

Ray Burgett has much experience as a florist and has worked locally his whole career. Ray’s training began in 1969 at Hill Florist on Winter Hill in Somerville where he worked until 1972. After briefly working as a wholesale florist in Boston, Ray quickly realized that a 12 hour work day was too long for him and he came to work in Medford at D’Errico McGlynn Flowers. Working under renowned floral artist William DeMattia, Ray learned many lessons that enhanced his ability to arrange and compose flowers. He worked alongside William or ‘The Captain’ as many new him, traveling to floral exhibits and eventually managing the shop until 1981. Ray went on to manage two other shops, Griffin’s in Somerville and then The Boston Flower Shop. When Heritage Florist in Medford was put up for sale in 1986 Ray jumped at the opportunity to own and operate his own shop. And in 2012 he merged Heritage Florist with D’Errico McGlynn Flowers seeking more space in a more active area of the city.

In 2022 Ray, along with his daughter Jillian and son Jonathan, decided to change the name of the flower shop to Medford Square Florist. Moving next door from the shops original space, they are taking the opportunity in their newly updated shop to rebrand the business. A local artist, Sam Pitino owner of Letterluxe Signs, beautifully hand-painted the new name on the front window. The D’Errico McGlynn Flowers sign, which hung on the front of the building for so many years, now proudly hangs inside the new shop as an homage to the past. Over the years, the faces, and now name, may have changed, but the goal to make beautiful, fresh flower arrangements has always remained. Come on by and say hello.
